likeu Safety.
Maitreya, PBC — a child-safety Public Benefit Corporation. likeu is a trust-gated connection app. 18+.
Last updated: August 29, 2026Child safety is the reason this company exists. That is also why there are no children here yet.
Building for kids carelessly is how you fail them. A safety promise you can't keep is worse than no promise. So we sequence: adults first. We earn the right to protect children by proving the infrastructure works on people who can consent to being early — not by shipping a minor experience before the systems behind it are real.
This page is the receipt. Every claim below is labeled by how proven it is: Live (true today), Building (in progress, not done), or Not yet (deliberately not built). We would rather under-claim than mislabel one line. On a safety page, an inflated claim is a lie that can hurt someone. 18+ is the discipline, not a retreat.
Dora is the AI chat that onboards you. If you disclose active abuse, self-harm, or immediate danger, Dora surfaces real help right there — call or text 988, text HOME to 741741, or call RAINN at 1-800-656-4673 — then asks whether you want to keep going or stop. You decide. Be clear on what this is: AI-assisted surfacing of crisis resources, followed by human review. It is not a classifier scanning users. It is not automated predator detection. When something is flagged, a person looks at it.
We haven't built an off switch. By design, when a crisis is flagged, the alert fires to our whole team across every channel — there is no setting, for us or anyone, that suppresses it. What this cannot promise is catching every crisis: it depends on the moment being recognized in conversation.
You can block any user and report any user. Both are built into the app.
The guardrail and alerts work today. The formal written protocol behind them — who responds, how, and our mandatory-reporting obligations in writing — is being authored now. The founder owns it. It is not finished, and we won't call it finished until it is.
Today, review of predatory or grooming patterns is human — a person reads transcripts. That is the honest state: human-led, not automated. We are working to make that review sharper and better-supported. We are not claiming automated detection, because we don't have it.
We name these because leaving them unsaid would be the dishonest move.
An under-18 / minor experience. The founder won't ship it until it can be done right. Today, likeu is 18+ and not for minors.
Age verification. 18+ is self-attested. We ask; we do not yet verify. Treat it as an honest floor, not a proven gate.
Proactive CSAM detection tooling. We have not built automated detection of child sexual abuse material. On the law and our duty: if we become aware of child sexual abuse material, U.S. law (18 U.S.C. §2258A) requires us to report it to NCMEC — and we will. That duty applies now, not only once minors are on the platform. What we have not built is proactive detection tooling; that is a prerequisite before any minor could ever join.
Because these are not built, the conclusion is simple and non-negotiable: likeu is 18+ and not for minors today.
Block: open the user's profile and choose Block. They lose contact with you.
Report: choose Report on a profile or message, and tell us what happened.
After you report — honestly: a human reviews every report. We are a very small team, and we won't promise a response time we can't guarantee. This is not 24/7 monitoring. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or use the crisis lines below rather than waiting on us.
What we do with it: reported content and crisis flags are seen by our team for safety review, and may be preserved where the law requires. See our privacy policy for how we handle your data.
If you are in danger or crisis, these lines are staffed for you. You do not need the app to use them.
Safety here is not an inbox no one reads.
Safety owner: the founder, reachable at safety@maitreya.company.
When you report something, a human reviews it. That is true today, not a plan.
We will not open likeu to anyone under 18 until all of the following ship first. These are conditions, not dates. We promise a bar, not a calendar.
- Age assurance — a real way to keep minors out until they belong here, replacing self-attestation.
- Proactive CSAM detection tooling — beyond the reporting duty we already hold: tooling to detect and remove child sexual abuse material.
- The mandatory-reporting protocol, finished — the written crisis-response and reporting protocol now in progress, completed and in force.
- Stronger grooming-pattern review — behavioral review matured well beyond today's human-only transcript reading.
All four. Before the first minor. No shortcuts because we were in a hurry.
This is education, not a safety claim. These are outside organizations with resources on recognizing grooming, abuse, and exploitation, and on getting harmful material taken down. We link to them so you can learn. We are not affiliated with them, and pointing you to them is not proof that likeu is safe.
Learning the patterns is how ordinary people catch what algorithms miss.
